An Epic of The Heroes

I
O sing O Muse, of the twofold path of fate
For all great heroes at one point considering whether or not to partake
Achilles could have stayed home with a long-life without much story
Or go to the Trojan shores and be renowned with everlasting glory
Zeus himself before becoming an Olympic God, quietly gathered his forces
Scholars considering it all myth should look to deeper sources

Noble Hector, never had there been a truer prince or king
Who can say they have ever beheld such a thing?
With his duty and character of beauty; fought for his countrymen and country
He fell once to invincible Achilles; but rose forever as holding the noblest abilities
Athena generously endowed her heroes with wisdom and shining virtue
With these things guiding them, their followers blossomed from few to millions true

From Scipio to Alexander, and Alexander to Achilles —
All great heroes looked to those of the past
Whether they rose gradually or ascended fast
Some needed a herald, some need none
Especially when you are the Chosen One

Usually of great intellect and physical stature
Men of virtues raising them above human nature —
As what greatest artists would call Kalokagathia
Their faces and bodies gleamed with heavenly brilliance
With brilliance, they overcame things that were once a hindrance

Their sweetness and charm to those they called friends
True friends they sought and for true friends they fought

With passions and emotions so deeply felt
The colossus conquered the world; and still facing worthiest true love, mutually knelt
What passions Gods give to heroes to command
From that kind of perspective few will understand
Yet humanity itself and all humans know; the hero’s journey to be true
Thusly, the story inspires all, and is not limited to a few

Why does Great Man Theory rarely apply?
Because only once every few centuries does such a hero pass by
Then how shall we know it is him when the people gathers?
Because he speaks and stands up for something that matters

At what point did they themselves know?
Probably quite young when they still did not have much to show —
A combination of faith and fate, fate and will, will and faith
The dreamer wakes in the dream and changes the rules
A hero of vision and never a fool
IX
What is there to fear when fear is overcome
To look back and be proud when all is said and done
Standing at the peak on top of the world, either young or old
The hero looks back at his former self, inspired now not by past heroes —
But by himself of the past;
That version of him who never gave up
To his words and himself he was always true, and this he cared the most;
For all along, Truth, cannot be a boast
His story remembered throughout all time
This one time, he was here, within God’s mind
